Why light the inside

The house is fine. The hallway is just dark.

Every house makes sounds at night. The heating ticks, the ice maker drops a tray, a car door shuts somewhere down the street. Most of the time you lie there and decide it’s nothing. Some nights you get up to check, and that’s when the house is least friendly: switches at the wrong end of the hall, stairs you take by memory, a closet you open by feel. Nobody plans that walk, so nobody lights it.

Light is the easy fix, and it’s the one most homes leave out because wiring a new fixture is a job. A rechargeable bar skips the job. It goes where the light is needed, not where the old switch happens to be, and it turns on because you moved, not because you found the switch in the dark. It costs about what a takeout dinner does, and it’s up before the food would arrive.

That changes the check itself. You see the stairs, you see the hallway, you see that the door at the end is shut. Then you go back to bed and the light switches itself off behind you. It’s a small thing, and small things decide whether a house feels easy to move around after dark.

Light the path where your feet go, not where the switch was put.

Three modes, many spots

Auto for the night. On when you need it. Off when you don’t.

Auto is the mode most people leave it in. The bar sits dark until someone moves in front of it at night, lights the way, then goes back off once the movement stops. On is for the times you want steady light, like digging through a closet or working at a counter in shadow. Off is for when you don’t want it at all.

Because nothing is wired, the bar goes where the dark spot is. The top step of a basement stair. The inside of a closet with no fixture. The underside of a kitchen cabinet, so the counter lights up when you walk in for a glass of water. When it needs charging, it comes off the magnet and the plate stays put.

Setup

Setup takes a few minutes per bar

1

Charge both bars first

Plug each bar into a USB-C charger before you mount it, so it starts full.

2

Pick the spot

Stairs, hallway, closet or under a cabinet. Point the sensor toward where people walk, within about 3 to 5 m.

3

Stick the plate, click on the bar

Wipe the surface clean and dry, press the plate on firmly, then let the bar snap to it by magnet.

4

Set it to auto and walk past

Switch to auto and walk by in the dark. It should light up as you pass. If it doesn’t, make sure the room is dark and the sensor faces the path, not a wall.

To charge, lift the bar off the magnet and plug it in; the plate stays on the wall. These are made to light the inside of the house, and no weather rating is listed for them.
Where it belongs

Any home with stairs, a long hallway or a dark closet

If someone in your house gets up at night, the route from bed to the bathroom or the kitchen is where this goes first. Same for a basement stair, a closet with no light, or a counter in shadow under the cabinets. It is $27.99 for two bars, with no tools and no wiring. If it doesn’t do what you just read, send it back inside 30 days. Shipping to the US, Canada, the UK, Australia and New Zealand is free and tracked, and most orders arrive 1 to 3 weeks after ordering.

Layer your defense

The light covers the hallway. The alarm covers the glass.

A light in the hallway helps you see your own house, but it can’t tell you a window is being forced while you sleep. The TremShield Alarm sticks onto that glass and fires a 125 dB siren the moment someone forces it, with no Wi-Fi and no subscription. One alarm is $29.99; six are $99, which is $16.50 per alarm (Save $80.94).

Questions, answered calmly

Each light bar mounts on a thin plate that sticks on, and the bar holds to the plate by magnet. It suits clean, smooth spots inside the house: a hallway wall, the side of a stair, the inside of a closet or the underside of a kitchen cabinet. No drilling is needed.

In auto mode, the motion sensor light bar switches on when someone walks by in the dark and goes back off when nobody is moving. The sensor reads movement across about 120° and about 3 to 5 m away, so aim it at the path people walk, not at a wall.

No. These rechargeable light bars are made for indoor spots like stairs, hallways, closets and cabinets, and no weather rating is listed for them. They light the way for the people inside; they don’t sound an alarm or watch the doors.

Two USB-C rechargeable LED light bars, each 20 cm long, each with the stick-on plate it holds to by magnet. The 2-pack is enough for two separate spots, such as the stairs and a hallway.

Lift the light bar off its magnetic plate and plug it into USB-C; the plate stays on the wall. How long a charge lasts depends on how often the light switches on each night, so there is no single runtime to quote. Charge it before you first mount it so it starts full.
