It started with one window.
TremShield wasn't dreamed up in a boardroom. It started with someone we love, a new apartment, and a problem nobody was solving simply.
The first window
A few years ago I helped my mom move into a ground-floor apartment. New street, new neighbors, and a window right beside her bed that looked out onto a dark parking lot.
She didn't feel safe there. Not panicked. Just unsettled, the way anyone is in a new place at night.
So we looked at home security. Every option wanted the same things: a multi-year contract, thirty to forty dollars a month, an app, a Wi-Fi connection, and a camera pointed back at her own living room. To install the "serious" systems, you had to drill into walls her lease wouldn't allow.
She didn't want to be watched. She wanted to sleep.
A simpler kind of safe
My grandfather was a locksmith. He used to say security isn't a screen you check. It's a door you stop thinking about. That stuck with me.
Since then I have spent years studying security and the psychology behind it: why a burglar picks one house and walks past another. The research keeps arriving at the same quiet truth. Break-ins are decided in the seconds before they happen, from the sidewalk, and a home that visibly pays attention usually ends the story right there. Real security is mostly deterrence, not reaction. The siren matters, but its deeper job is to make sure it never has to sound.
We found a small device that did one honest job. Stick it to the glass, and the moment someone tries to force the window, it sounds off, loud enough to send them looking for an easier house. No app. No Wi-Fi. No monthly bill. No camera, no account, no one watching.
She put one on the bedroom window. Then the kitchen door. The first night, she slept straight through till morning. A week later a neighbor wanted one. Then the neighbor's daughter, off at school in her first apartment.
That's how TremShield really started. Not with a pitch. On a windowsill.
